Bandsaw FAQs

An industrial bandsaw is a large, fixed machine, with a blade that has a continuous strip of teeth. These machines are generally semi-automatic or completely automatic, providing a great level of stability when operating.

This is a versatile machine, used primarily for cutting wood, metal or plastic. At Anton Saws, we have a range of bandsaws for sale, which are ideal for:

  • Making curved cuts and irregular shapes
  • Resawing larger pieces into thinner boards
  • Creating precise, straight cuts

Depending on if it’s manual, semi automatic or fully automatic, operation will differ slightly. You will be provided with instructions on how to operate your specific machine. However, bandsaw machines will generally follow the same format:

  1. Prepare the saw: Select the right blade for your material and adjust the blade tension
  2. Set the guides: Adjust the blade guides close to the material for better accuracy
  3. Position the material: Place the material on the bandsaw table and align it with your cutline
  4. Turn it on: Start the saw, let it reach full speed and guide it into the material slowly
  5. Safety first: Always keep your hands away from the blade, and use guides if need be

No, they are not universal, there are a range of industrial bandsaw blades available. They vary depending on:

  • Length: Depends on the model
  • Width: Affects cutting radius (wider blades are better for straight cuts, narrow blades are better for curves)
  • Teeth: Determines the suitability for the material

Yes! At Anton Saws, we stock a wide range of saws designed to cut a range of materials. When it comes to cutting metal, you will need to use a blade designed specifically for metal cutting, such as a bi-metal or carbide-tipped blade. Additionally, the bandsaw will need variable speed settings, as slower speeds are required for metal.

Not entirely – they have different uses. If you have specific inquiries about materials/the right saw to use, do not hesitate to get in touch!

Yes, bandsaw blades can be sharpened, especially high quality blades. We can provide a professional sharpening service for the best results.

A bandsaw uses a continuous loop of toothed blade stretched over two wheels. The motor drives the wheels, causing the blade to move in a single direction. The cutting action comes from the teeth of the blade as the material is fed into it.

It can depend on a variety of factors. These include: material you’re cutting; frequency of use; and maintenance.

There are a few simple steps to follow when changing your blade:

  1. Unplug the saw: Ensure it’s off for safety.
  2. Release tension: Loosen the blade tension knob.
  3. Remove the old blade: Carefully slip it off the wheels.
  4. Install the new blade: Fit it around the wheels and into the guides.
  5. Re-tension and align: Adjust blade tension and tracking before use.

If you in the market for a brand saw industrial bandsaw, there are a few things you should consider when browsing your options:

  • Cutting capacity: Throat depth and resaw height determine the size of material it can handle.
  • Motor power: Higher power is needed for cutting hardwood or metal.
  • Blade size compatibility: Match to your intended cuts.
  • Durability: Cast-iron or steel frames are more robust.
  • Automation: Consider the volume of material you need to cut, and the frequency.
